Freddie Wimpoles is a craft beer destination in the heart of Melbourne’s St Kilda. It’s a new old destination. Set in the old George Hotel site, Freddie Wimpoles is named after Frederick Wimpole – the man who purchased the very same hotel way back in 1873. There are 13 rotating craft beers on tap and New York style deli food amongst other goodies to tempt your taste buds. There’s also a hunting lodge vibe with neon lit American diner atmosphere, poolroom and jukebox for good measure!
They offer an extensive wine list, cocktails, beers, spirits and soft drinks for everyone to enjoy. With live music on weekends from both local bands and international acts it’s the place to be if you’re looking for a night out with friends or family! The atmosphere in this pub is relaxed yet lively with friendly staff who are always happy to help answer any questions about their menu.
Freddie`s has been around for over 100 years, making it the oldest pub in St Kilda. The food menu features hot dogs, subs, salads and desserts with an American feel to them. Cocktails are simple but with a serious trick or two, executed with surprising deft and balance in such a casual environment. A Smoky Old Fashioned is served in a 19th century-style glass bottle, well-balanced and with a pleasant fresh smokiness.
On Wednesday nights, the place is relaxed but very much alive, with an animated crowd of 25-40s folks engaged in conversation. Happy hour goes for three hours (until 7pm), with cheap pints of Brooklyn and $6 Pabst Blue Ribbon tall boy cans available on tap. You could also play a game of pool or hit up one of their many board games while waiting for your next drink to arrive on the oversize communal table in front where everyone can gather around it to watch TV together.
