Bad Frankie

Bad Frankie is a Fitzroy bar and a great spot for gin lovers. This Melbourne bar stocks 150 gins, all sourced from Australia! The store’s owner and passionate bartender, Seb Costello, has met each distiller in his quest to stock the shelves of this Melbourne establishment. He’ll tell you everything you need to know about any particular spirit—just ask him!

With a focus on local distilleries and artisanal products, Bad Frankie has something for everyone. The Fitzroy cocktail bar offers tasting flights to help you discover the many different flavours of Australian booze, as well as cocktails and snacks to complement them. Whether you’re a whiskey lover or a vodka fanatic, Bad Frankie has something special just waiting for you.

The bar has been designed with an Australiana vibe, and offers up a range of jaffles thought up by chef Michelle Boyle (Collins Quarter). There’s also lamb roast, lamingtons and Anzac biscuits. Patriotism has never tasted so good.

With over 200 different bitters, they have something for everyone. The Bitters of Oz cocktail is a perfect example of their creativity and passion for flavor. It’s a super-Negroni made with Four Pillars Negroni spiced gin, Regal Rogue’s Bold Red vermouth and a blend of six different local Amari. This cocktail is rich and complex, with flavors that will tantalize your taste buds.

The bar was named after John Franklin, who banned small pot stills and distilleries in Van Diemen’s Land when he was governor there around 1840. All of the cocktails use regional ingredients like pepperberry and quandong. Costello came up with the concept for Bad Frankie while downing beers and whiskies at a Nashville bar several years ago; he wanted to create a similarly proud local culture establishment back home in Melbourne.
