Heartattack and Vine is a café, and wine bar. It’s also a hub for the creative community of Melbourne. With a focus on great coffee, wine and food from local producers, it has been an integral part of the inner-city suburb of Carlton since 2012. The space is open 7 days a week with something going on every night – be that live music events or their famous Sunday sessions which have become renowned as one of Melbourne’s best places to catch up with friends over brunch.
It’s a place with a shared passion for hospitality, through Melbourne-made wines from the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula, local craft beers from nearby breweries including Feral Brewing Co., Hawkers Beer and Bridge Road Brewers. They also offer an ever-changing list of seasonal cocktails made by co-owner Hootan Bahmani.
The Carlton bar has an indoor space with low seating and tables to eat at, plus an outdoor courtyard that’s perfect for sunny days. They serve up delicious food like handmade pastas, fresh salads and slow-roasted lamb ragu. The bar is by co-owners Emily Bitto and Nathen Doyle (who’ve worked at A Minor Place and Wide Open Road).
This wine bar is a modern take on an old world Italian hospitality. It features a mix of international and Australian wines as well as an impressive range of vermouth, including Casa Mariol ‘Vermut’ Negre from Catalonia in Spain and Contratto Rosso from Piedmont in Italy. Heartattack and Vine draws upon old-world Italian hospitality and the history of Lygon Street while remaining thoroughly modern. The staff are knowledgeable about all wine matters, be it Champagne or Chianti, Cabernet Sauvignon or Vermentino.
