Daddy Bar in Brunswick is a new, local hotspot in Melbourne. This kitschy coffee house, cocktail bar, gallery and general hang offers something for everyone. Tucked into a revamped bank vault on Sydney Rd., Daddy Bar is the perfect place to relax and take in all that this eclectic neighbourhood has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a great cup of coffee, an inventive cocktail or just a place to hang out with friends, Daddy Bar Brunswick is the place for you.
The Daddy Bar is a new, funky venture from sisters Ellie Hunt, Shellinda King and their mate Nicholas Limberis. If it looks more like a DIY house from the 1950s, that’s because you’re not far off the money – the three owners pretty much built the place themselves, twinking out the décor with salvaged, recycled materials. It’s all about great food and drinks at great prices in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The daddy bar is an eclectic, mismatched, vintage-themed bar.
You’ll find mismatched ceremonial teaspoons hanging on the wall next to floral wallpaper from your nan’s second bedroom. The walls are peeling with brickwork and knick knacks all over them. Lace doyleys hang out front of the cosy bay window—all hanging ferns, stained glass and squishy cushions for bench seating inside. It’s like a lost & found jumble sale.
For the menu take your pick from a delicious home-baked lemon tart or cheese and pesto toastie, then settle in for a cosy Sunday sesh. The bar slings $12 espresso martinis on Friday nights (garnished with a choc pocky stick—a nice touch), and there’s a solid selection of Aussie wines chilling in the fridge. Beers are punchy craft numbers like Fixation IPA and Moon Dog’s peachy hop pale ale on tap. So pull up a stool, order yourself an ice-cold beer or two, and enjoy the company of your mates at this Brunswick bar.
