Nestled above The Retreat Hotel on Sydney Road, Amelia Shaw is a haven-like bar and salon. Spread over four rooms, the venue offers a bit of polish to Brunswick. With its funny and tongue-in-cheek tone of voice, Amelia Shaw is perfect for a fun night out with friends. This boutique hotel bar has an Australian twist in both name and product with the Banjo Patterson, including Tasi, Tasmanian Bush Liquor, and Kir Rosella similarly cued, classic cocktails drawn from a collection of high quality spirits, locally crafted brews, and quality handpicked wines. The menu features sliders, beer-battered pickles, edamame and fries, among other items.
This Brunswick bar is furnished with 1960s Japanese hotel lobby light fixtures and a mix of rare mid century furnishings. Whether you’re admiring the American West Coast Deco influence or Hand painted geometric murals, there’s something special to appreciate in every corner of this unique space.
Clint Fisher and Kathleen Clarke are the owners of Amelia Shaw, having named it after the bar’s first licensee in 1842. The building was originally constructed as a farmhouse before it became a licensed premises and has undergone extensive renovations to bring it up to modern standards.
One room features a round pool table and a pink trestle washbasin, while another sports a potted palm tree and an ornate mirror. The Brunswick Bar comes with its own pair of bar stools for those who want to enjoy cocktails amid the laidback atmosphere. And, if you need more space to work, there are plenty of tables available too!
