Black Pearl Bar Fitzroy
Black Pearl Bar: A Fitzroy Gem with World Class Talent
The Black Pearl is located on 304 Brunswick Street in the Fitzroy District. Locals know Fitzroy as a place with a rich and diverse cultural background that’s been redeveloped many times. Today it’s the home of many art galleries, hip cafes, and pulsing nightlife.
Take a slow walk down Brunswick Street and feast your eyes upon some of the best examples of Victorian Era Architecture (Cathedral Hall, Melbourne Veterinary College, Royal Terrace).
Once you arrive outside the Black Pearl, you’ll find yourself standing in front of a 2-story building with a red-brick exterior. The building may be old, but the glass windows with fully drawn blinds will tell you that there’s much more to discover inside.
With almost 2 decades of history in the Fiztory District, The Black Pearl & Attic cocktail bar has earned a reputation of attracting some of the most famous and inspiring talents from the local bartending scene.
This is no strange fact as Time Out Magazine itself has even been awarded the Black Pearl Best Bartender of the year award 3 times now.
Follow their Instagram @blackpearlfitzroy and you’ll get to know the wide range of personalities that are serving up the cocktails at this Brunswick Street institution!
Taking up both levels at 304 Brunswick Street, the Black Pearl team manages two different spaces. The first level is the main cocktail bar branded as “Black Pearl” and is open Tuesday – Sunday (3pm – 1am).
The Attic – Pearls Upper Floor
The second level is known as “the Attic” and is a smaller more intimate space also run by the Black Pearl team and staff. This cocktail experience is only made available on the weekend (Friday -Saturday 6pm – 1am ), so I’d recommend making a bookings on their website!
The Black Pearl’s name speaks volumes when it comes to hospitality. For those that care about ambience, you’ll be rest assured to know that the quality of the Black Pearl’s interior also matches its bartending reputation.
On the first level, you’ll find the leather seats and pearlescent painted walls give you a sense of calm and welcome. Houseplants, vintage mirrors and hanging lightbulbs are spread throughout and make you feel right at home. Couches and chairs are also well-positioned to give you a sense of space and comfort.
Black Pearl Menu
While nibbling away at their scrumptious treats, you’ll find the Pearl’s cocktail menu is made up of a selection of international spirits such as Johnnie Walker, Tanqueray No. Ten, Japanese Whiskey and many more. Curious on why how these drinks were created by Melbourne’s best? Grab a seat by the Melbourne bar, you might just get the opportunity to ask everything there is to know behind their inspirational drinks!
Cocktail veterans will definitely be intrigued by The Panacea. This glass of innovation is all about elevating the average person’s perception of Johnnie Walker Black Label to new heights. What some would consider a simple whiskey is now given a completely new take by pairing Black Label with flavours such as citrus, fig, pepper and turmeric.
What exactly does this mean for your taste buds? We I can’t tell you for sure, but we’re certain that the best option for you is to find out yourself!
The Attic Cocktail Bar
As you for the rest of the Black Pearl menu you’ll also find the instructions to proceed up to the the Attic itself. If you’re planning a late night out in Fitzroy with your friends, you might as well make plans for the second level cocktail bar.
Enter The Attic and you’ll find yourself stepping into a place like no other. With bespoke wooden furniture, open-face red brick wall, black floral wallpaper and simple décor almost puts you at a fancy bed and breakfast in the European countryside.
For a view of Brunswick street and a glimpse of the Melbourne CBD’s bars, make a booking at the leather l-shaped corner table by the half-moon shaped window!
Sample a shortened list of 7 cocktails exclusive to those dining at the Attic. What are these 7 cocktails? That totally depends on when you decided to visit this Fitzroy establishment!
